About Medowie

Medowie, Aboriginal for “Tall Trees”, is located in the Port Stephens Local Government area in the Hunter Region of NSW.
We are approximately 34 kms north of Newcastle and have a population of 8000 according to 2006 Census (the most up to date figures, although figures are estimated to be closer to 9000 people now).

Medowie has 3 local schools – Wirreanda Public School, Medowie Public School and Medowie Christian School.
Due to the close proximity to the RAAF base in Williamtown a large number of RAAF personnel live in Medowie.
There is a rural fire brigade in Medowie with the station running since 1946.
Pacific Dunes Golf Club is located within Medowie. In addition, There are many sporting clubs including Soccer, Cricket, Rugby Union, AFL, Netball, Tennis and Athletics. Other fitness available is Pilates, Zumba, Tae Kwon Do, Karate, Personal Training and Yoga, as well as numerous dancing schools for children and adults. Scouts and Girl Guides both run out of the local Community Hall.
Once a month Medowie holds its own markets – on the grassed area in front of the Bull n Bush Hotel.
Medowie has a lovely community of friendly people, and welcomes newcomers to our area.
